Abstract		High - quality clinical microbiology laboratory is essential for managing today's problems of infectious diseases, including health care - associated infections. It is still a matter of debate, where and how a modern laboratory should be organized in order to provide good patient care and save money at the same time. The results of testing will be precise and quickly available only if the preanalytical, analytical and postanalytical phases of the process are managed with the same attention. Effective communication based on trust and knowledge is essential for achieving these goals.
