Abstract     Hepatitis A is generally an acute, self limiting enteric infectious disease caused by picornavirus. It occurs world-wide in sporadic and epidemic form by fecal-oral route of transmission. Infection and spreading of hepatitis A can be prevented with improvement of sanitary-hygienic conditions and passive and active immunisation. There is a low incidence of hepatitis A in Slovenia, so in 1996 active immunisation with inactivated vaccine against hepatitis A was introduced. Immunisation is recommended to travellers travelling to the countries with high risk of infection with hepatitis A virus. According to our experiences vaccination against hepatitis A with inactivated vaccine is safe and effective.
