Abstract     The purpose of this study was to assess the risk of work-related injuries and the threat to the working ability of the employees of the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant (ŠTPP) overall and within 17 different employment groups. Using the established methods of parametric and nonparametric statistics, we analysed the structure, level and dynamics of selected indices of well-being (external and internal fluctuation, injuries at work, sick leaves, newly disabled persons and employed disabled persons by categories of disability, age-based retirement before or after the completion of the compulsory service period, and mortality during the period of employment) for this Slovene power plant on the basis of the companys records for the 17-year period 1980-1996 and for certain intervals within this period (1980-1990 and 1991-1996) and compared the results with the values for the Republic of Slovenia (RS) for the same period. For persons who became disabled during this period, the average age were calculated during their disability assessment. The results of this study have confirmed the hypothesis that the level and dynamics of the majority of studied indices of well-being at šTPP as well as for certain employment groups within the company differed significantly from those for the RS during the entire study period or during the interval periods. During the stated period, external fluctuation (%) both overall and in the majority of employment groups was significantly higher than in the RS. The average incidence of work-related injuries at ŠTPP was significantly higher than that for the RS only during the last 6 years of the study period. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
