Abstract     Kinetics investigations of trityl-amlodipine transformation into amlodipine benzenesulfonate are presented as a basis for reaction mechanism investigation and process optimisation. In this case C-N bond cleavage was found to proceed with amlodipine salt elimination. Interactions of the dihydropyridine part of the molecule were observed to interact as well, yielding some of the by-products. Optimal reaction conditions for the synthesis of amlodipine benzenesulfonate have been elaborated.
