Abstract     Remediation of the polluted Škocjanski zatok regards dredging the lagoon to enhance hydrological and oxidative conditions. The proposed use of dredged spoil in construction of expanded harbor facilities or disposal of potentially polluted material has raised questions about possible metal toxicity in the marine environment. Total, seawater and acid leachable metals were determined using dried specimens from 18 'horizontally' and 'vertically' representative sediment cores from the brackish Škocjan Bay lagoon in the city of Koper, Slovenia.
