Abstract     Air pollution has been investigated 3 months during 2000 in the industrialized urban region of Ljubljana, Slovenia. 23 parent and alkylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) were measured in inhalable and respirable particulate matter employing ASE/SFE and GC/MSD-SIM analytical procedures. The highest total concentration of selected 10 PAH (65 ng m-3) and benzo(a)pyrene (7 ng m 3) were found in the ambient air in Ljubljana in the wintertime. Only half of these values were detected in the outskirts of the town. The average 3-monthly concentrations of 10 PAH were 23 ng m 3 and of benzo(a)pyrene 7 ng m-3. In general, the highest PAH concentrations were found in inhalable particles. Ambient concentration ratios MePhe/Phe and MePy/Py were indicative of pyrogenic PAH pollution.
