Abstract     Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are emitted in the lower atmosphere from different sources as a product of the incomplete combustion in motor vehicles, industrial processes and boilers. Traffic is the most influential source in the summer season. The emissions rates of PAH's from traffic can be estimated with the use of Copert III programme. In the city of Maribor 16 of PAH's are being determined from particulates. The comparison is made between estimated emission quantities and measured ambient concentrations, which take into consideration the distribution between gas and particulate phase of the particular PAH. The agreement is very good with very high correlation coefficient. Ambient concentrations can be estimated also with the model. Calculated values are surprisingly in good coincidence with measured values. This is true for the species, that are completely in particulate phase.
