Abstract     Laryngectomy is necessary for cure in the patients with advanced laryngeal or hypopharyngeal cancer. After laryngectomy, many patients important functions are impaired but the inability to speak is considered the greatest difficulty. The speech rehabilitation is started soon during the treatment. The patients are taught esophageal speech. The insertion of voice prosthesis or the use of artificial larynx are considered only in those patients who do not learn esophageal speech. In Slovenia, speech rehabilitation after laryngectomy is comparable to the rehabilitation in the developed countries. 85% of the patients are satisfied with their mode of speech rehabilitation.
