Abstract     The article briefly looks at definitions of waste by type, place of origin, features and quantities. It presents municipal waste and industrial waste, which is divided into hazardous and special waste. These two types are further divided into groups, which are categorised by physical and chemical features. Groups of waste from everyday life and industry are displayed in schemes. Schemes are also used to present possible processing methods. The article also describes waste-processing procedures, i.e. physical, chemical and biological procedures, procedures of combustion, pyrolysis and incineration, and final waste disposal. The incineration procedure is described in detail, with its advantages and disadvantages and the types of waste processed thereby The incinerator is demonstrated in a scheme. Final waste disposal procedures are presented by most frequently used methods. The quantities of waste in Slovenia are presented by type. The integral concept of waste management with its main phases is presented.
