Abstract     Development of the locking reamed and nonreamed intramedullary nails has greatly expanded the indications of their use. Fracture stabilization with modern intramedullary nailing techniques is biomechanically more appropriate and leads to faster bone healing with higher healing ratio in comparison with classic stabilization procedures. The use of intramedullary nails enables less additional damage to soft tissues. The rehabilitation and weight-bearing of the injured extremity is earlier. In most cases intramedullary fixation can be obtained immediately after the injury. With the appropriate indications, the right choice of intra-medullary nails as well as good care and after treatment of the patients very good results can be achieved.
