Abstract		In 1996 the residues of organochlorine pesticides in imported food of animal origin became actual again. From 1996 to 1997 in total 756 samples, mainly porcine and bovine meat from 23 countries (79.4% from eastern Europe) were examinated on the residues of 8 substances (including metabolites of DDT. In 8 samples (mostly calves from Hungary) maximum residue levels were exceeded (in 7 cases of DDT with metabolites). After that the calf import from Hungary was mostly replaced with import from Poland and Czech Republic. The contents of organochlorine pesticides detected in these samples were also higher when comparing to Slovenian calves.
