Abstract     In two identical groups of patients with pathological astigmatism the pre and post operative values of astigmatism and visual acuity were measured. Patients in bought groups were operated on cataracts. In the first group the incisions were done on the steepest axis and in the second group the incisions were done on the 90 degrees axis. The results show that there is statistically significant difference (p<0.05) in both groups regarding the post operative astigmatism. In the group with incisions done at the steepest axis there is less induced post operative astigmatism or even cured pre operative astigmatism. The uncorrected visual acuity is statistically significantly better (p<0.05) in the group of patients with the incisions at the steepest axis. In the best corrected visual acuity there are no statistical significant differences.
