Abstract     The aim of our study was to compare the outcome of the ICSIprocedure for severe male infertility with the outcome of the IVF procedure for tubal infertility in unstimulated cycles. The retrospective study included 286 unstimulated (135 ICSI and 151 IVF) cycles with oocyte recovery. In ICSI cycles, the normal fertilization rate was 63.8 (67/105) and the pregnancy rate per oocyte recovery 12.6 (17/135). In IVF cycles, the normal fertilization rate was 65.8 (77/117) and the pregnancy rate per oocyte recovery 11.3 (17/67). There were no statistically significant differences in cycle outcome between ICSI and IVF cycles. This study confirms the expectations that ICSI for severe male infertility in unstimulated cycles can generate results similar to those obtained in unstimulated IVF cycles for tubal infertility.
