Abstract		Background. Infection of knee prosthesis is a serious complication both for the patient and the surgeon. The rate of infected knee prostheses is 2 per cent, and is slightly higher than of hip prostheses. Early and correct diagnosis and proper treatment are essential to a successful management of infected knee prostheses. The choice of treatment modality depends on the associated diseases, causative agent, and on whether the infection is caused by one or several pathogenes. Conclusions. In addition to vigorous antibiotic therapy, based on antimicrobial sensitivity tests, replacement of the infected prosthesis, done as a one or two stage procedure, is required in nearly all cases. The rate of successfully treated infections is approximately 90 per cent.
Summary		Izhodišča. Okužba endoproteze je hud zaplet tako za bolnika kot zdravnika. Pogostnost okužb kolenskih endoprotez je nekoliko višja kot kolčnih in znaša nekaj nad dva odstotka (1,2). Za uspešno zdravljenje okuženih endoprotez je pomembna zgodnja in pravilna diagnostika in seveda pravilen izbor terapije. Za kakšen način zdravljenja se bomo odločili, pa je odvisno tudi od spremljajočih bolezni, od povzročitelja okužbe in pa od tega, ali gre samo za enega povzročitelja, ali je okužba mešana. Zaključki. Poleg energičnega, usmerjenega antibiotičnega zdravljenja je treba skoraj vedno odstraniti in zamenjati endoprotezo, kar napravimo z eno ali dvema operacijama. Tako nam uspe pozdraviti približno 90% okužb.
