Abstract | Sensory disturbances are at least as common, disabling and complex symptoms of the peripheral or central nervous system diseases as motor dysfunctions are of clinical nerologic disorders; until recently however, sensory disturbances have attracted much less attention. Not only is their detection and staging difficult, but also their quantitative assesment presents even more problems. For accurate evaluation of sensations, however, several more precise and sensitive modality specific psychophysical methods and techniques have been developed. The tests are based on subjective responses and results are valid only if the patient cooperates in the psychophysical procedure. | |
