Abstract     Pain is the most frequent symptom in many patients seeking emergency medical care (EMC). Adequate and effective pain alleviation is important part of complex EMC. Data from literature warn on inadequate pain treatment in emergency medicine in spite of fast evolution of pain medicine and clinically available analgesic techniques. The reasons partially lie in the specificity of EMC and more in misled believes and inadequate knowledge of pain medicine and pain treatment modalities. The choice of an analgesic technique depends on patient's condition, emergency situation, pain evaluation and organization and capability of emergency medicine service. With combination of clinical knowledge on pain treatment and empathy and humanity we can adequately and effectively alleviate pain in the patients seeking EMC.
