Abstract		Shock is always a life-threatening situation. Because of this simple fact, diagnostic efforts, evaluation and management must most often occur simultaneously. Since early recognition and treatment are key to survival, the diagnostic effort is primarily a clinical one. Technical diagnostic procedures should not delay necessary therapeutic measures.
