Abstract     Intravenous drug and cocaine abuse patients who experience trauma, acute medical illnes or chronic diseasees need to be treated becouse of their acute or chronic pain. We divide these patients in five groups: acutely intoxicated, active abusers with or without withdrowing symptoms, addicts on methadone maintenance treatment and former addicts. We present three casses of pain management from our practise. We discuss general guiding principels governing pain treatment of these patients and some special considerations for each group of drug abuse patients.
