Abstract     3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, Ecstasy) is an amphetamine derivative that has gained significant popularity in recent years, especially among young adults at dance parties. Despite common belief that it is a safe drug with negligible toxicity, even ingestion of small quantities of the drug can lead to unpredictable and severe systemic toxicity with hyperthermia, rhabdomyolysis, multiorgan failure and fatal outcome. The authors report a case of a 21-year-old male patient, who ingested Ecstasy during an all night dance party. The clinical course of intoxication was extremely rapid. Loss of consciousness, hypertermia and shock were followed by disseminated intravascular coagulation with profuse bleeding and rapid multiorgan failure. He died 11-hours after admission, despite aggressive symptomatic treatment.
