Abstract     Emergency situations in cardiology including acute coronary syndrome present a direct threat to patients' life. Physician has a leading role in the team performing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) but success of the procedure and outcome for the patient often depend also on knowledge and skills of the nurse participating in the team. Time available for decisions what to do is very short so the team must act harmonically. A well experienced nurse knows for sure that things do not always go smoothly during emergency procedures on coronary arteries. It is seconds that counts when complications appear. All instruments that nurse might needed must be prepared close to the examination table but should not be in operating physician's and assistant nurse's way. Nurse must also check all medical devices and life support equipment prior to procedure and possible complications and make sure that the patient has estbalished and reliable peripherial intravenous access. They must also explain the procedure to the patient in the way they can understand. During the procedure the nurse must look after the patient, their ECG and blood pressure on the monitor and administer the patient all necessary medications. The nurse should be aware that beside faultless professional work she will also help the patient a lot by giving them human warmth, encourageing them and wiping their sweaty, worried forehead. Patients expect that from the nurse who is thus supposed to give them all that. After the procedure the nurse has to collect patient's medical files and convey all information about procedure to nurses who come to take over the patient.
