Abstract     By gathering and analyzing the data on appearance of the menarche by 228 schoolgirls from Prekmurje in age between 11.9 and 15.4 years in school year 2000/2001, the author used retrospective methodology to prove her thesis. The average age and mean on the appearance of menarche, the monthly and yearly distribution of menarche and coincidence between month of the birth and appearance of the menarche were calculated and estimated. Also, effects of the various social and economic factors were taken into consideration. The results were compared with the results, given in a similar study in 1971 on the same region and with the results of other researches. The average age on appearance of the menarche is 12.38 years, which is equal with result given in the research for entire Slovenia 15 years ago. The highest frequency of the appearance of the menarche is in the summer time in months June, July and August, with July on top of them all. In the winter time the highest frequency appears in January. The coincidence between month of birth and the month of the menarche is only 9,2%. The appearance of the menarche is highly related with the nationality. Higher education of parents does not play an important role. The thesis also proved that the earlier appearance of the menarche is likely to occur in nuclear four-member family, families with more members, families in smaller residences and more active schoolgirls.
