Abstract     Ivy is a climber that is very widespread in Slovenia, growing up to an altitude of 1,200 m. According to many authors, ivy is clearly a poisonous plant. Poisoning can occur after consuming the fruit of ivy. The literature says that even a few berries can cause digestion, neurological and breathing problems, and that larger doses cause coma, stop breathing and lead to death. Most cases do not state the exact amount of berries consumed. There are more detailed descriptions of dermatitis that can be caused by contact with ivy and also products containing ivy extracts.
