Abstract     Primary cell cultures from endometrial carcinomas were prepared as an experimental systems, in which responsiveness of malignant cells to ovarian hormones was studied. Monolayer cell cultures were prepared from 10 out of 20 tissue samples of endometrial carcinoma. No monolaver growth was obtained from ten tissue samples, containing very small number of cells of high proportions of mainly necrotic tissue. In cells of monolayer cultures the synthesis of progesterone receptors was induced by physiological concentrations (1x10-8 M) of estradiol. In conditions of cell culture the presence of estrogen and progesterone receptors was detected after 8-10 days of growth in all cell cultures, but only in three out of ten experiments cells responsed to the presence of estradiol with increase in progesterone receptor synthesis, while in two experiments the levels of progesterone receptors and estradiol treated cells decreased bellow the control values. The results of our experiments indicate, that primary cell cultures serve as an experimental system to evaluate ovarian hormone responsiveness of endometrial carcinoma.
