Abstract     Public image is essential to the success for the majority of organizations. A growing awareness of the libraries is that they need clear public relations which through current financial and moral support enable their progress and success. To compete for funds in higher education, library managers nowadays have to be aware that investments in public relations play an important role in gaining support of the organization. Public relations include different types of communication with various public groups presented by faculty upper-management, faculty members, students, and other representatives of the community. In communication with potential users customeroriented marketing is being frequently used. Successful marketing requires that the librarian understands the library's users and their perceptions of the library's services and resources. To achieve this, marketing plan is set up representing an effective tool to define and transmit its image, philosophy, and mission within the organisation. The Central Medical Library (CMK) represents the leading biomedical library in Slovenia, whose users are students, the Medical Faculty staff, as well as numerous health professionals, researchers and laypersons from the entire country. To communicate with a diverse range of library patrons, CMK has developed several different approaches in order to inform its clientele as well as to receive their feedback.
