Abstract		The main functions of a crown providing retention of a partial denture are chewing load transfer and maintenance of a suitable path of insertion, retention and stabilization. If the crown is to fulfil all these tasks, its oral, proximal and buccal surfaces must have a suitable shape. Besides the standard laboratory equipment, a dental surveyor and milling tools are needed for the fabrication of these crowns. The article gives recommendations how the metal framework of the crown and its porcelain or resin veneer should be modelled to assure proper function and acceptable appearance of this prosthetic appliance.
