Abstract     Development of listening and speech skills in a cochlear-implanted child will be optimum if such child lives in an environment rich in auditory and speech stimuli. A large majority of children with a cochlear implant are, therefore, integrated into the mainstream kindergartens and schools. To ensure success of such integration the professionals at these institutions need to be educated and trained. The Centre for Hearing and Speech Maribor provides various training activities aimed at preparing the kindergarten and schoolteachers for the work with cochlear implanted children. We assessed through a questionnaire how appropriate these activities are and what are the areas in which the professionals need additional training. We also wanted to establish to what extent individual profiles of counsellor are involved in the work with the children with cochlear implants.
