Abstract | This diploma paper deals with the views of Slovenian eighth-grade pupils from eleven health promoting schools and eleven other schools on the use of drugs. The theoretical part represents the basis for carring out preventive health and educational programs. It deals with the factors which could contribute to the formation of pupils' views and attitudes which would in turn facilitate the rejection of drugs. It also presents the findings of foreign research regarding the success of various preventive programmes. The research on the eighth-grade pupils' views was carried out in march 1995, and it has been based on the systematically and randomly chosen sample of 250 pupils from health promoting schools and on equal sample of pupils from other schools. The data has been gathered anonymously by means of a questionnaire. The purpose of the research has been to find out whether there is a statistically significant difference in the pupils' views from the two groups of schools. The statistical analysis has shown that the pupils from the health promoting schools have significantly more organized forms of imparting information on drugs than the sampled pupils from other schools. No statistically significant difference between the two groups of schools regarding the pupils' satisfaction with information has been found. The statistical analysis has also shown that a significantly greater part of pupils from both groups of schools believe the information they are given on drugs. And, in this respect, there has been no ststistically significant difference betwen the pupils of both sexes. The pupils place the information on drugs at the top on prevention of the use of drugs. A statistically significant difference has been found betwen the pupils from the health promoting schools and the pupils from other schools in their opinions on the most harmful and the least harmful drugs.
