Abstract     Advances in the understanding of growth physiology and disease pathophysiology have led to the identification of the key nutrients that may assume essential status in growth or play crucial roles during intermediary metabolism in sepsis, inflammation and tissue healing. The author describes the role of nutrients, such as L-arginine, taurine, nucleotides, glutamine, antioxidants, prebiotics and probiotics in health and disease.
Summary     Boljše razumevanje fiziologije rasti in razvoja otroka in patofiziologije različnih bolezni omogoča prepoznavanje in uporabo nekaterih sestavin hrane, ki imajo ključno vlogo pri rasti otroka, kot tudi v metabolizmu tekom bolezenskih stanj, kot so sepsa, vnetje, celjenje ran in podobno. V prispevku avtorica opisuje vlogo L-arginina, taurina, glutamina, nukleotidov, antioksidantov, prebiotikov in probiotikov, v zdravju in bolezni.
