Abstract     Objective: To determine current rates of antimicrobial resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes. Methods: From January to June 2001 eight microbiology laboratories in Slovenia isolated 772 strains of S. pyogenes and 504 strains of S. pneumoniae, mostly from respiratory fract. Susceptibility to several antimicrobials, phenotypes ofresistance to macrolides and resistance patterns were determined. Results: All strains were susceptible to vancomycin. Three phenotypes of macrolide resistance and wide differences among regions were found. Results for S. pneumoniae: 16,3% of strains were intermediate, 1,2% resistant to penicillin. Resistance rate (sum of intermediate and resistant category) to trimethoprime-sulfamethoxazole was 27,2%, to tetracycline 13,5%, to erythromycin 11,1% and to clindamycin 7,5%. Results for S. pyogenes: all strains were susceptible to penicillin. Resistance rate to tetracycline was 12,9%, to erythromycin 6,1% and to clindamycin 1,8%. Conclusions: The rates of resistance to antimicrobials tested and the presence of multiply resistant strains are a cause of concerne. Surveillance must continue.
Summary     Namen: Ugotoviti delež odpornih sevov pri bakterijskih vrstah Streptococcus pneumoniae in Streptococcus pyogenes za nekatere antibiotike. Metode: V osmih slovenskih mikrobioloških laboratorijih smo v prvi polovici leta 2001 osamili 772 sevov vrste Streptococcus pyogenes in 504 sevov vrste Streptococcus pneumoniae, večinoma iz dihal. Pri sevih smo določili občutljivost za izbrane antibiotike, fenotipe odpornosti proti makrolidom in vzorce odpornosti. Rezultati: Vsi sevi so bili občutljivi za vankomicin. Našli smo tri fenotipe odpornosti proti makrolidom in ugotovili velike razlike med regijami. Rezultati za S. pneumoniae: proti penicilinu je bilo 16,3% vmesno odpornih in 1,2% odpornih sevov. Delež odpornosfi (združena vmesna odpornost in odpornost) proti kotrimoksazolu je bil 27,2%, proti tetraciklinu 13,5%, proti eritromicinu 11,1% in proti klindamicinu 7,5%. Rezultati za S. pyogenes: za penicilin so bili občutljivi vsi sevi. Delež odpornosti proti tetraciklinu je bil 12,9%, proti eritromicinu 6,1% in proti klindamicinu 1,8%. Sklep: Ugotovljeni deleži odpornih sevov proti nekaterim antibiotikom in prisotnost večkratnoodpornih sevov je zaskrbljujoča, zato se mora spremljanje odpornosti nadaljevati.
