Abstract     Information technology development provides library patrons direct access to an increasing number of information. In order to master and effectively use that, the adequate knowledge and skills are required. For this reason, the educational services in special libraries and particular medical libraries get new extensions. In this context, librarians have taken on the role of instructors who mediate new knowledge to different group of users. In the past, a variety of terms were used in order to name those educational activities, while nowadays they are known as information management. Therefore, it is important for the librarian to clearly define and delineate the scope of educational activities, analyse needs of the target groups as well as tasks and methods of educational services. Performing of educational services is a cyclic process, which demands proper evaluation and regular update. Central Medical Library has given considerable attention to educational programs. Users' education was determined as an important goal in the years 1977-78, when the library took an active part in the teaching process at the Medical Faculty giving lectures on medical informatics to the first year students. At present , a variety of educational programs is being offered and performed in many different ways. One of the important goals at the Central Medical Library is to increase patrons information literacy and simultaneously encourage them to develop skills for life long learning.
