Abstract | Myelomeningocoele, the most common congenital malformation of the central nervous system, is a serious disorder with significant long-term morbidity and a reduced quality of life due to multisystem sequelae of the myelodysplasia. This paper focuses on the treatment of these neurological, urological, orthopaedic and psychosocial sequelae. Due to the complexity of the disability, there is an urgent need for an aggressive, well-coordinated and multidisciplinary management approach. The goal of treatment is to enable the child to reach his/her maximal functional and physical potential within the scope of his/her disability. | |
