Abstract     Interpersonal relationships of 1756 suicide attempters from 15 European countries assessed in the WHO/EURO-study of suicidal behaviour were investigated. 51% were living in a stable relationship. More than 60% of these reported that problems with partner were the reason for attempting suicide. Overall the percentage was higher for females than for males. For young males problems with partner had a stronger impact than for young females. The most frequently reported kind of problems were serious relationship problems, sexual problems, rows, mental mistreatment and partnership problems due to financial problems. The results are especially important with regard to therapeutic issues.
