Abstract     The paper shows an analysis of a rainfall runoff water treatment structure (WTS) on a motorway on carstic terrain. The selected pilot WTS near Divaca was analysed already by a former study. In this study more credible results were obtained, on their basis reconstruction will be carred out, while further analysis will give information on the success of reconstruction. The main findings of the hydraulic and quality analysis of the WTS are: (1) sand from adjacent slopes and gulleys is entering the sedimentation basin, (2) all kind of particulate waste, mainly plastics and mown grass, is also entering the WTS, (3) the flow regulating orifices are being chocked by the particulate waste, (4) the flow through the settler is too turbulent and thus flushes already settled matter, (5) the effect of the mechanical (and partly chemical) cleaning is under expectations, (6) the infiltration of such incompletely cleaned water into the carstic underground is questionable. The conclusions give proposals for reconstruction of the WTS and for proper maintenance: (1) sand traps must be constructed at the entrance to the WTS, (2) the Tyrol grates shall be implemented to catch the plastics and mown grass, (3) the settling and settled zones in the settler shall be divided by a special grate that disables resuspension, (4) before the treated water is infdtrated into the carstic underground, a sand filter, or better (6) a reed bed (biofclter) shall be constructed.
