Abstract		The artide evaluates the butterfly fauna observed in Bela Krajina and the eastern Kočevska region during 1998-2001. This first report includes 95 species and 69 surveyed localities. The presence of some species with submediterranean distribution in Slovenia (such as Pyronia tithonius, Artogeia mannii, and Hipparchia semele) is one of the most striking characteristics of this region. The findings of some rare migrants, e.g. Leptotes pirithous and Lampides boeticus, are also surprising. According to the avaliable data, the latter has not been recorded in Slovenia since 1947. Wet grasslands around the source of the Lahinja are of the highest nature conservation value for the preservation of endangered butterflies.
Summary		Prispevek obravnava favno dnevnih metuljev, opaženih v Beli Krajini in vzhodni Kočevski v letih 1998 in 2001. To je prvi obsežnejši pregled favne metuljev tega območja, v katerem je bilo najdenih 95 vrst in pregledanih 69 lokalitet. Pojavljanje nekaterih v Sloveniji submediteransko razširjenih vrst, kot so na primer Pyronia tithonus, Artogea mannii in Hipparchia semele je ena glavnih značilnosti favne obravnavanega območja. Presenetljive so tudi najdbe redkih selivcev Leptotes pirithous in Lampides boeticus. Po zbranih podatkih je bil slednji v Sloveniji nazadnje opažen leta 1947. Naravovarstveno najpomembnejši za ohranitev ogroženih vrst metuljev so vlažni travniki v širši okolici izvira Lahinje.
