Abstract		The most frequent cause of chronic pancreatitis is chronic alcohol abuse. The incidence of chronic pancreatitis in developed countries is increasing. The pathogenesis of alcohol-related disease is not yet fully understood, but there are a number of theories about the development of the condition. Patients with chronic pancreatitis have an increased risk of pancreatic cancer.
