Abstract     A strong and recurrent abdominal pain is the first and one of the major symptoms of chronic pancreatitis. As the causes of pain are various, all patients do not respond favorably to one and the same treatment modality. The cause-and-effect relation between pathomorphological changes in the pancreas and the pain is not always clear, therefore, after having managed all surgical complications, we most often treat the pain symptomatically. The patients with severe pains need to be treated with opioids, which may result in drug addiction. The patient with neuropathic pain should, in addition to opioids, receive extra drugs to treat the pain as well as the anesthesiology interventions. When symptomatic treatment of the pain is not effective or has severe side effects, the decision on the treatment of the causes of pain is taken by gastroenterologist or surgeon. Addiction to alcohol, which is ohen ossociated with chronic pancreatitis, calls for cooperation with psychiatrist. To sum up, managing the pain in patients with chronic pancreatitis demands a multidisciplinary approach.
