Abstract     The name »LASER« is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is the new, internationally accepted name for biostimulation with low energy lasers in order to achieve therapeutic desired effects. There are two major areas for which laser therapy is used in physical medicine: tissue healing and pain control. In article we describe the principles of LLLT, the basics of laser physics, types of lasers, effects of lasers on the tissue and the main indications and contraindications for LLLT in physical medicine.
