Abstract     The need for physical therapy increases with advancing age which in itself is associated with a more frequent occurrence of diseases. These can represent absolute or relative contraindications to the application of certain methods. General contraindications will be presented along with single techniques and methods of physical therapy. The present paper deals with specific aspects of prescribing and performing physical therapy in patients with cardiac venous conditions, respiratory diseases and certain endocrinal disorders. Most of the physiotherapeutic methods are feasible if adapted as to the length and intensity of therapy and intermediate pauses. It is sometimes necessary to provide special external circumstances while it is always safer to also monitor single physiological parameters. The safety of affected individuals must be assured by preliminarily testing their cardiorespiratory capacity. I also deal with the contraindications concerning the prescription of aids, particularly the chances of adjusting prostheses following the amputation of extremities.
