Abstract     Whiplash associated disorders are the most frequent injuries of the cervical spine. Management and prognosis depend on the degree of an injury according to the Quebec classification. Patients' complaints that are usually in need of comprehensive rehabilitation are pains, muscle stiffness and tenderness, neck motion limitations and possible neurological signs. A therapy starts after a clinical diagnostic evaluation and depends upon the stability of the cervical spine. Pain reduction, previous functional capacity and early return to usual activities are main rehabilitation goals. When it is not possible, professional rehabilitation using residual abilities is prescribed. It is important to prevent that the injury becomes a chronic complaint which starts six months after injury and is best treated in a multidisciplinary pain centre where a psychological approach instead of the physical therapy is preferred.
