Abstract     Osteoatrhritis of the hip affects approximately 40% of the population older then 60 years. History, physical examination and X-ray are enough for the diagriosis. It is very important to prevent the progress of the premature osteoatrhitis of the hip joint, which untreated brings to heavy disability. A patient should be acquainted with the expected course of the illness and should bring some changes in his life style. Approximately two thirds of the patients are overweighed. A treatment options are non-surgical and surgical. It is very important to be aware of excessive consumption of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Insertion of total endoprotesis is most common procedure and instability of the hip endoprothesis is the most frequent complication. Absence from work should be prescribed in accordance with the guidelines, but there is a need to take in the consideration the variations of an individual patient.
