Abstract     Clinical history is not adequate for the diagnosis of occupational asthma. We need to perform objective lung function testing in order to document the variability and/or reversibility of airflow obstruction. This can be done by serial measurement of PEF and/or FEVI or bronchial provocation tests (metacholine and specific provocation tests). The appropriate timing for these tests during the symptomatic phase at work and after a period off work provides a clue to a correct diagnosis.
