Abstract     Paratuberculosis is a common disease of ruminants in Slovenia. In 1999, a total of 38,469 cattle sera and 12,578 sheep and goat sera were tested in enzyme immunoassay using Mycobacterium paratuberculosis Antibody Test Kits (Idexx, Sweden). A total of 9,388 cattle sera, from 302 bulls' mothers herds from different regions of Slovenia, were examined between 2000 and 2001 using ELISA Paratuberculosis kits (Institut Pourquier, France). In 1999, 3.4% of the cattle and 3.5% of the small ruminants that were tested were positive, as were 4.0% of the cattle herds and 11.6% of the small ruminant herds. In 2000 and 2001 a decrease in the number of positive cattle occurred (0.44%), while the number of positive cattle herds rose to 11.59%. According to the results of the study, Slovenia ranks in the lower half of countries that estimated the prevalence of bovine paratuberculosis at the herd level. The unlimited trade of animals, especially those from big dairy-cattle herds, remains one of the most common reasons for the spread of paratuberculosis. The prevalence of infected animals in Slovenia is low, whereas the prevalence of infected herds is high.
Leta 1999 smo z encimskoimunskim testom Mycobacterium paratuberculosis Antibody Test Kit (Idexx, Švedska) pregledali 38.469 serumov goved in 12.578 serumov drobnice.
