Abstract		Schizophrenia is a mental disorder with the peak onset in adolescents and young adults. Early recognition of schizophrenia and therapeutic intervention can help reduce later morbidity and promote better recovery. Treatment of adolescents and recent advances in etiology of schizophrenia are emphasized.
Summary		Shizofrenija je duševna bolezen, ki se najpogosteje pojavi pri mladostnikih in mlajših odraslih. Zgodnja prepoznava in zdravljenje sta ključnega pomena za dobro prognozo bolnikov s shizofrenijo. Članek opisuje novejše poglede na nastanek in razvoj bolezni ter pristop k zdravljenju mladostnikov s shizofrenijo.
