Abstract     A prevalence of hearing disorders increases with child's age. The condition can be induced by the exposition to excessive noise. Children spend a great part of their time at school, therefore information on noise levels to which they are exposed during school time is important. Noise pollution both around and inside schools is well regulated by current legislation. Noise in schools results from noise-emissions caused by internal and/or external sources of noise. Measurements were carried out in the schools' surroundings and in schoolbuildings in the town of Celje. The results obtained show that schools in Celje are located in areas where maximum noise levels or even critical noise levels have been greatly exceeded. The maximum noise level has often been exceeded even when carrying out measurements in empty classrooms. Results of measurements, taken during school time, were evaluated in different situations: in classrooms during lesson time, during breaks and during physical education classes. According to the results obtained, consequences of exposure to noise can be expected in schoolchildren, though without hearing impairment. The same applies to teachers except for physical education teachers, who are exposed to higher noise levels with possible permanent hearing impairment.
