Abstract		The paper discusses the phenomena of self-image and self-respect, defining them from the point of view of both pioneer and contemporary approaches, and emphasising the necessity to make a clear distinction between these two phenomena. The main section of the text discusses a survey through which the author identifies the differences between self-image and self-respect in persons of different nationalities. One of the main results of the survey is that self-respect is ranked by one group higher than practically all elements of self-image. Given that these findings have not been upheld by other surveys, the conclusion of the paper makes an attempt to interpret self-image and self-respect from the point of view of contemporary cognitive psychological approach, with the author postulating the hypothesis that self-image is a conscious topical dimension of personality, while self-respect is preconscious.
Summary		Članek obravnava fenomena samopodobe in samospoštovanja, ki ju opredeljuje z vidika prvotnih in sodobnih psiholoških pristopov ter poudarja nujnost razlikovanja med omenjenima pojavoma. Osrednji del teksta se nanaša na raziskavo, v kateri je avtorica ugotavljala razlike v samopodobi in samospoštovanju med osebami različnih narodnosti. Eden glavnih rezultatov je tudi, da je samospoštovanje pri eni izmed skupin višje izraženo kot domala vsa področja samopodobe. Glede na to, da teh izsledkov druge raziskave ne potrjujejo, se v sklepnem delu članek osredotoča na poskus razlage samopodobe in samospoštovanja z vidika sodobnega kognitivno psihološkega pristopa, pri čemer avtorica postavlja hipotezo, da je samopodoba zavestna, samospoštovanje pa predzavestna topična razsežnost osebnosti.
