Abstract		It is estimated that in Slovenia out of nearly 18.000 births, 14.000 women suffer from postpartum depression; 1.800 to 3.600 from postpartum deprossion - one quarter of these for serious depression and around 36 women from postpartum psychosis. Women sutfer more than it is usually imagined and their suffering should be given more attention. Women with mood disorders associated with childbearing should be given more help on the regularbasis. A network of social and health services which would offer various choices should be established. Assertiveness, team work and continuity of care for childbearing women should become a part of an effective modem public mental health system in Slovenia. Furthermore, established concepts of matemity need to be given a critical consideration.
Summary		Po ocenah razširjenosti poporodnih stisk v svetu predpostavljamo, da v Sloveniji, kjer letno rodi nekaj manj kot 18.000 žensk, doživi poporodno otožnost okoli 14.000 žensk na leto; poporodno depresijo od 1.800 do 3.600 žensk, četrtina od njih težjo obliko depresije; in poporodno psihozo do 36 žensk na leto. Ženske trpijo bolj, kot si običajno predstavljamo, in njihove stiske zaslužijo posebno pozornost. Ženskam, ki doživljajo stiske, povezane z materinstvom, je potrebno ponuditi več sistematične pomoči in vzpostaviti mrežo, znotraj katere bo vsaka našla sebi najprimemejšo obliko. Asertivnost, celostnost, timskost in kontinuiranost skrbi za nosečnice, porodnice in ženske po porodu so sestavni deli učinkovite in sodobne mreže duševnega zdravstvenega varstva, ki jo je v Sloveniji potrebno šele izgraditi. Vendar to še ni dovolj - nujno je vzporedno razvijati kritične razmisleke o uveljavljenih konceptih materinstva in pogojih, v katerih ženske postajajo matere.
