Abstract		Entering the European Union will require several adjustments, among others also modifications in the educational program for graduate female and male midwives. Sectoral directives of EU in the field of educational programmes for midwives will have to be acknowledged. There are big differences in education and practice of midwives' work in different European countries: however, the goal is the same everywhere, which was evident on the conference Revitalizing Midwifery presented in the report contained in the second part of the article.
Summary		Z vstopom v Evropsko unijo bo potrebnih veliko prilagoditev na področju javnega sektorja. Spremembe bodo zajele tudi izobraževanje diplomiranih babic in diplomiranih babičarjev. Upoštevati bomo morali t.i. sektorske direktive, ki jih EU predpisuje za teoretično in praktično usposabljanje babic. Izobraževanje in praksa babic se v evropskih državah precej razlikujeta, obstaja pa skupen cilj, kar je bilo razvidno na konferenci "Revitalizing Midwifery" in poročilo s katere je predstavljeno v drugem delu članka.
