Abstract | On the market available antiasthmatics are, in comparison with drugs used to treat other chronic illnesses, very effective and safe. Current asthma therapy is, according to the World health organization guidelines, based on selective beta2 adrenergic receptor agonists and glucocorticoids. Anticholinergics, methylxanthines and cromones are a second choice drugs. The new group of antiasthmatics is represented by leukotriene receptor antagonists, but their final enforcement in the clinical practice is still not defined. The molecular mechanisms studies of the action of antiasthmatics have greatly improved our understanding of asthma and set up the basis for development of new antiasthmatics. When patients suffer from severe asthma or in the cases when they don't tolerate currently available antiasthmatics, the new antiasthmatics will probably contribute to the improvement of asthma therapy in particular. | |
Summary | Varnost in učinkovitost registriranih antiastmatikov je v primerjavi z ostalimi učinkovinami, ki se uporabljajo za zdravljenje kroničnih bolezni, zelo dobra. Sodobno zdravljenje astme, kot ga priporoča Svetovna zdravstvena organizacija, temelji na selektivnih agonistih beta2 adrenergičnih receptorjev in glukokortikoidih. Antiholinergiki, metilksantini in kromoni so glede na smernice za zdravljenje astme zdravila drugega izbora. Novo skupino antiastmatikov predstavljajo antagonisti levkotirenskih receptorjev, katerih dokončna uveljavitev v klinični praksi še ni dorečena. Proučevanje molekularnih mehanizmov delovanja antiastmatikov je v veliki meri izboljšalo razumevanje astme in postavilo temelje za razvoj novih antiastmatikov. Novi antiastmatiki bodo verjetno prispevali predvsem k izboljšanju zdravljenja težjih oblik astme in zdravljenja astme pri bolnikih, ki ne prenašajo trenutno dostopnih antiastmatikov. | |
