Abstract     Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare disorder of unknown origin characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of the bowel wall, gastrointestinal symptoms, and very often, peripheral blood eosinophilia. In some, the cause is an IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reaction to food antigens. In others, the cause is unknown. EG has similar features to childhood diseases that have a clear allergic basis, suggesting that these are different manifestations in a spectrum of disorders. Treatment includes attempts at dietary management and oral steroids.
