Abstract     The goal of present article is to characterize the disintegrated hardmetal powder particle size and shape based on the quantities of image analysis and to compare the data by the results obtained by analogous methods. Our motivation was to acquire the hardmetal powders from recycled material (low cost) with the properties comparable to those of the commercially produced (Tafa Inc., Sulzer Metco Inc.- Amdry) powders. Particle size and shape parameters detennine the main technological properties of powders and the properties of the materials produced from the powders. Hardmetal powders produced by disintegrator milling were studied. Different methods, such as image analysis, sieving, gas-chromatographic adsorption method, and the particle size analysis by the laser analysis (suspension cell) method are available for powder size and shape evaluation. The size parameters of disintegrated powders were evaluated by the above-mentioned methods. The mean diameter, density function, mass distribution function and specific surface area for the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of ground metallic powders are described.
